errorfm is an international listener-controlled internet radio station based in the UK. Here is our story:

2002 (May): Emohawk and friends set up a small shoutcast server. We play whatever music we happen to have and start development. We find a small group of DJs to start live talent and begin broadcasting to the world.

2002 (July): We upgrade: New design, DJ icons, DJ pages, blogging and other simple social networking gadgets are born with the help of icode.se. We develop our chain of command, as this is becoming a noteworthy project.

2003: We celebrate a full schedule of great programming, and listenership is starting to grow.

2004: New site design with user selectable “themes” and a tagboard. Work begins on on-air feature Unsigned Artist of the Week. We decide pop is to be our official music genre.

2005: We begin experimenting with playlists and music automation. We discover how to fill up downtime, and "off-air" becomes an issue of the past. Our first promotional campaign begins, when our youngest DJ on staff designs the first flyer, and we unload 5,000 of them at the Vans Warped Tour in Los Angeles. We add a listener phone line with the help of skype.com which allows the listener to call live DJs from any studio without the need for wiring. We welcome Jason Jeffries as our first official Morning Host. We partner with roughedge.com and begin carrying original downloadable content.

2006: We welcome Larry Woodside to Mornings. Most DJ's begin playing a new style of music called "indie". The format is changed from "Pop" to "Personality Radio". with plans to launch a second channel. We hop on the Social Networking train and create ErrorFM on Myspace. Listeners are now able to post ErrorFM audio players on their MySpace pages, and listenership doubles overnight.

2007: Major site redesign. We give birth to "errorFM channel 2" and launch a new format: indiepop. Major acts make up the core of this project, from The Beatles and Weezer to The Feeling and Interpol. You will hear Elliot Smith, Fleetwood Mac, Bright Eyes, Ben Folds, The Rolling Stones, Oasis, Rooney, The Velvet Underground, Belle & Sebastian, ELO, Bob Dylan, Ben Kweller, David Bowie, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Andrew Bird - to name a few.

2008: We automate re-broadcasting live shows in other timeslots, and as backup. Errorfm goes on Facebook and twitter and start to heavily promote the streams. We are added to iTunes Radio in their Alternative, Rock & Eclectic Genres.

2009: We move operations to Portland Oregon and connect up with Radio23.org, advancing our late-night programming attraction. We created full-automation and sophisticated scripting, and grabbed the popular Cort and Fatboy show from local legend 101 KUFO. Their Midnight Movies and LOST episode viewings at the Baghdad in SE Portland have neven been more popular. By December, pdx.fm launches and thus begins a new world for netcasting in the Pacific Northwest.

July 2009: ErrorFM has a 'link drive' in hopes to gain more audience & exposure. DJ's & hosts played roles similar to a PBS Pledge Drive host, but instead of asking for donations, links were the goal. It had little success.

2010: With the end of KLSX-FM's Talk format, ErrorFM heads back to Hollywood to co-create HotTalkLA.com bringing a new live attraction to evenings. ErrorFM, late to the game at this point, features all errorfm live shows as podcasts on their RSS feed. By April, ErrorFM was ready for the first remote broadcast from Sherman Oaks Park (consisting of a full system setup on a car battery) with great success. ErrorFM builds a virtual remote salesteam, as more lucrative opportunities become available for advertising.

April 2010: ErrorFM develops a splashpage for mobile listening ease. ErrorFM officially re-launches it's dual-channel AAC+ lo-bw streams.

June 2010: After a successful ErrorFM in the Park series, Alan K. Lohr becomes Promotions Director. Art Webb, ErrorFM indiepop Music Director creates NewNormalMusic, featuring all-new indiepop, beginning with 50,000 songs in a row.

July 2010: ErrorFM launches the Backyard Party Radio Network, a community of independent radio stations banding together to create awareness to how accessible internet radio has become. This same weekend, ErrorFM Channel 1 Personality Radio becomes ErrorFM LIVE, programming free-form live radio with almost 24/7 live programming, for the first time in several years. ErrorFM also launches HotTalkLA LIVE with the addition of Skeetopia and Harry Shelley's Hollywood Drive-By to the HotTalkLA lineup of top talk talent.
